A customer from the aerospace industry approached CT Hone, Inc. to I.D. hone a Plunger & Sleeve set, made of 440C stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 56 – 60. We used Sunnen honing machines & tooling to hone the Plunger & Sleeve to the tightest tolerance of ± .0001″. The Plunger’s honed hole was .505″ long and had an inside diameter of .2509″. The 2.610″ long Sleeve’s honed hole measured 1.835″ long, with an inside diameter of .8512″. For the Plunger & Sleeve set, we achieved a microfinish of 8.
